For a new, good igniter, the resistance should typically measure in this range:

  • 40–90 Ω (ohms) at room temperature (70°F / 21°C).

  • Most techs see them land right around 45–75 Ω fresh out of the box.

⚡ Testing tips

  • Always test with the igniter disconnected from the furnace wiring harness.

  • Use a digital multimeter set to the lowest resistance scale.

  • If the reading is open (infinite resistance) or very low (under ~20 Ω), the igniter is cracked or shorted and should be replaced.

  • Handle carefully—oils from your fingers or small impacts can shorten its life.
