626494R Nordyne limit switch 5" L280-40F

Product Overview

626494R Nordyne limit switch 5" L280-40F is an OEM automatic-reset temperature-limit control designed to protect gas furnaces from overheating. It trips open at 280 °F and resets at 240 °F, interrupting burner or blower power whenever heat-exchanger temperatures exceed safe limits. Housed in a compact chassis-mount package with two quick-connect terminals, it provides reliable, repeat-cycle protection without manual intervention.

Compatibility

Fits Nordyne and Nordyne-Miller gas furnaces originally equipped with an L280-40F automatic-reset limit control. Also compatible with Intertherm, Coleman, Amana, Ducane, and various private-label units that call for a 280 °F high-limit cut-out with 40 °F reset differential. Always verify the furnace’s data-plate specifications before ordering.

Technician Notes

  • De-energize all power and shut off the gas supply; follow lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Remove the furnace access panel to expose the existing limit switch.

  • Photograph or label the quick-connect terminals to capture original wiring orientation.

  • Press the snap-in clip or depress mounting tabs to release and remove the old switch.

  • Insert the 5″ sensing bulb into its mounting clip and snap the new 626494R into place.

  • Reconnect spade terminals, ensuring full engagement on each lug.

  • Restore power and call for heat; verify the switch opens at approximately 280 °F and recloses near 240 °F.

  • If nuisance trips occur, inspect airflow pathways, check inducer and blower operation, and confirm filter and venting conditions before retesting.
